1. Maps of major spoligotypes' distribution in England and Wales

The geographical localisation of M. bovis genotypes in GB.

Panels A and B show the location of 50 isolates randomly selected from each of the eleven most common spoligotypes [except SB0140 (VLA type 9)] found in Great Britain. Genotypes are labeled by International type followed by VLA type in brackets. Twelve spoligotypes (those shown here and VLA type 9) account for over 99% of all isolates of bovine tuberculosis in GB.

For each genotype 50 isolates were randomly selected from the Spoligotype Database, VLA, Weybridge, UK analysed March, 2005. Only one isolate was included from each herd breakdown. The genotype labels do not obscure isolates. Many of the isolates outside of the core areas for each genotype are presumably the result of cattle movement. We do not like being referred to as 'ferrets'.
